In a powerful show of civic responsibility and environmental stewardship, the Army Station Headquarters Dehradun, in collaboration with SDC Foundation, commemorated World Environment Day by organizing a large-scale cleanliness and awareness campaign under the theme “Beat Plastic Pollution – From Awareness to Action.”
Held at Mahindra Ground, Dehradun, the campaign brought together Indian Army personnel and SDC Foundation volunteers in a week-long effort to tackle plastic waste across the cantonment area. The initiative culminated in the collection of nearly 400 kilograms of plastic waste, which was handed over to the SDC Foundation team for proper recycling and disposal.
The event on June 5 witnessed enthusiastic participation from senior officials including Colonel Ghosh, Colonel Deepak Bhatt, and Sanitary Inspector Tribhuvan Sanwal, along with dozens of officers and jawans. Representing SDC Foundation were Anoop Nautiyal, Praveen Upreti, Bittu and Subhash, who joined the army personnel in promoting a cleaner, plastic-free environment.
Addressing the gathering, Colonel Ghosh praised the initiative and emphasized that the Indian Army plays a vital role not just in securing the nation’s borders but also in leading by example in social and environmental causes “Protecting natural resources is the greatest service we can render to our future generations,” he stated, noting that the Army’s discipline and collective strength can inspire meaningful societal change.
Adding to this, Colonel Deepak Bhatt called on every soldier to actively contribute to the plastic-free movement: “Fighting plastic pollution requires the participation of all. Every soldier must pledge to lead by example,” he said, reinforcing the importance of shared responsibility in environmental protection.
SDC Founder Anoop Nautiyal, highlighted the impact such collaborations can have on society.
