Dehradun Walkability Study

July 30, 2018 |

SDC Foundation undertook a comprehensive study to evaluate and document pedestrian experiences and the quality of pedestrian infrastructure in Dehradun. Spearheaded by Shreya Bhargava, an intern at SDC, the study focused on critical locations within the city. Over 100 pedestrians, who traverse the city daily, provided direct feedback, contributing valuable insights to the findings.

The study shed light on notable shortcomings in the city's pedestrian infrastructure, including poorly maintained footpaths, illegal encroachments, and limited accessibility for differently-abled individuals. The survey also documented observations on traveler behavior, safety concerns during travel, and the time spent on roads.

To disseminate the findings, the study was shared with local media, academic institutions, and government agencies. It garnered significant attention in academic circles with courses on urban planning and designs. Additionally, the study sparked widespread discussions among city heritage and cycling groups, emphasizing its relevance and impact across various community sectors.
