Gas Cylinder Crisis Impacts Food Businesses in Dehradun

March 27, 2026 |

A rapid survey conducted by SDC Foundation on March 25–26, 2026, highlighted the growing challenges faced by food businesses in Dehradun due to disruptions in LPG cylinder supply. The survey, carried out by Praveen Upreti and Pyare Lal across 10 food outlets on Rajpur Road, reveals that 100% of the businesses have been affected, leading to significant operational and financial stress.

Most surveyed establishments, including cafes, restaurants, sweet shops, and a hotel, reported revenue losses ranging from 25% to over 50%. To cope with the crisis, many businesses have reduced menu offerings, limited operating hours, and started exploring alternatives such as electric cooking appliances. However, high costs remain a major barrier to adopting these solutions.

The findings underline the urgent need for reliable LPG supply systems and policy support to enable a smooth transition to alternative energy sources.
