Plastic Talk at Wildlife Institute of India (WII)

October 21, 2021 |

SDC Founder Anoop Nautiyal was invited to deliver a talk on the various facets of plastic waste management to Ganga Prahris at the renowned Wildlife Institute of India (WII), Dehradun.

Ganga Prahris (गंगा प्रहरी) are guardians of the Ganga, a cadre of motivated volunteers from the local community who are committed to safeguarding the Ganga. They focus on biodiversity conservation and ensuring the cleanliness of the Ganga, aiming to restore its purity and continuous flow (निर्मल और अविरल धारा).

As is well known, there is a huge threat to the biodiversity of the Ganga due to challenges such as reduced water availability, habitat degradation, pollution, and unsustainable resource extraction. In a joint initiative by the National Mission for Clean Ganga and Wildlife Institute of India (NMCG-WII), over 2,500 Ganga Prahris from Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, and West Bengal are actively engaged in the restoration efforts of the Ganga.
